I have been wanting to make these DIY Animal Magnets for a while now! They turned out even cuter than I had pictured in my mind. I love when that happens!
My boys LOVE to draw and we run out of fridge space. So I have been wanting a place where they could keep all their drawings and hang them proudly!
Last Christmas I bought my boys a big pack of these adorable mini animals. They were a big hit at first but now I always find them in the bottom of our toy bins. So when this idea popped into my head I knew just the toys to use for this project! Use your imagination and gather any miniature toy you can find in the toy bins. Some ideas I had were Lego people, Cars, and Mini Super Heroes for Boys. Girls would love magnets made from Shopkins, Barbie shoes/accessories, or Polly Pockets! The sky is the limit.
Now that we’ve brainstormed some fun ideas let’s get to making those Magnets!! First before we start assembling the magnets let’s give our mini toys even more whimsy!
- Paints ( I love Deco Art Brand paints)
- Mini Toy Animals
- Paint Brush
- Hot Glue Gun
- Magnet Buttons
- OPTIONAL: Magnet Board
- Pick a color palette you love and use those colors to paint your little animals. I chose light Blue, coral, Red, Green, and Yellow from Deco Art.
- Paint solids, stripes, and polka dots onto your animals. Let them dry for an hour or over night.
4. Press the flattest part of the animal against the Hot Glue Magnet Button. Press firmly for 20-30 seconds. Work quickly because Hot Glue dries fast.
5. Let your magnets dry and put them on your fridge or magnet board!
Can we just talk about this magnet board for a second. I had this whole plan to make a DIY Magnet Board and then I was roaming the aisles at Walmart and suddenly I saw this giant board for $13 and I knew after I bought all the supplies to make it I would be awfully close to this price if not more. So sometimes you have to know when to DIY and when to BUY! The Frame came in a nice glossy black. I wanted a bit more color so I painted mine green!
This little Moose was my favorite! I painted on little polka dots and his antlers green.
My boys were seriously adorable when they saw the setup! “It’s amazing!” they exclaimed. And as soon as my husband got home from work…”Dad you have to see the best surprise ever in our room!” It was so cute and made my day. Most Days they don’t get too excited about my projects. This makes me want to make more BOY room DIY’s! So there you have it! Cute, whimsical little DIY Animal Magnets! Have fun…and if your kids love to paint you can let them help too!
