So it’s January again. We are all making resolutions and setting goals for the new year. And if you are anything like me, you are also working a little harder to lose a few pounds gained during the holidays. Why is holiday food so delicious? I really need to learn a little self-control. (Maybe that should be one of my resolutions.) But then who would eat all the Christmas goodies I have stashed around my house? It’s a serious dilemma people.
While we are all in this new year mindset and resolving to live healthier lives, I’m going to share my favorite health challenge/diet game with you all. It’s called “Game On” and it’s actually really great. I have played it multiple times and always after having my babies. I have four kids. I fully recognize that my body will never be the same again. However, “Game-on” has helped me reach my goal weight after having my babies and it’s motivated me to keep eating healthy and exercise consistently long after the game is over.
So what is “Game on”? It’s a 4-week challenge designed to make living a healthy lifestyle fun. “Game on” not only focuses on healthy eating and exercise, but also getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, and changing habits in your life. The best part, participants get points for everything and you compete on teams. I love to compete so this speaks to me in a big way. Typically when I have played in the past, every participant pays an entrance fee and then that money is used as prize money. The team that has the highest score splits the prize money and earns ultimate bragging rights. What’s better than that? You get to kick your friend’s butt while shrinking yours.
One of the most unique parts of this health challenge is the team work and communication. You get points each day for communicating with your team. Whether you are sharing encouragement, asking for new recipes or just checking in- the team communication plays a big part in your motivation and determination. And competing on teams is such great motivation because you don’t want to lower your team score and let your friends down, so you are more likely to try your best.
The sleeping part is the hardest for me because I am a night owl. I don’t like going to bed early, but sleep is so good for your body and this game wants you to sleep at least 7 hours each night. I do notice that I feel better when I get more sleep, but it’s just hard to give up my kid-free/relaxation time.
If you are interested in competing in this health challenge, here is what you need to do.
– Form your teams: You need at least 2 teams (2-4 per team is ideal) and designate a score keeper for each team.
–Pick a prize: this can be anything cash, gift cards, babysitting services you get the idea
–Pick a start date: all participants must agree on a start date.
–Do your best: keep score everyday and have fun with it.
What do you think? Doesn’t that sound like fun? And if not fun, doesn’t that sound motivating? I really do love it. And believe me, I don’t eat healthy all the time. I like that this game gives you one “free day” during which you can do whatever you want. You can take a day off and not exercise or stay up super late. Or you can just eat everything in the candy store. (Don’t do that -you’ll regret it. Not that I know from experience….)
So there are lots of reasons to play:
-You have weight to lose
-You want to tone up
-You want to gain confidence
-You need motivation to exercise
-You want to be able to walk up the stairs without being out of breath (Me!)
Maybe you’ve just fallen out of love with your back fat
Whatever your reason, give it a try and let me know what you think.
And since this is a DIY blog, I have a fun project for you! One of the challenges when you play “Game On” is to drink 3 liters of water each day. That’s about 100 oz of water each day. So, with that in mind, here is a super easy tutorial to make your own motivational water bottle label. This little label can easily and quickly adhere to your water bottle and then you can track your water consumption throughout the day.
Oh and if you use our code “LACEYPLACEY” at silhouetteamerica.com, you will get 30% off specialty media and BOGO vinyl and heat transfer vinyl. That’s such a great deal. And I’ll give you a head’s up- we are going to be having some super cute projects in the near future using heat transfer vinyl, so stock up now!
Step 1: Download this file I designed for you all and open it in your silhouette studio program.
Then arrange the image where you want it on the page.
Step 2: Load your cutting mat with your choice of vinyl, with the paper side of the vinyl down.
Step 4: Send the image to your silhouette to be cut
Step 5: Unload the silhouette and peel off the vinyl image
Make sure to remove all the little pieces inside the letters.
I love to use my silhouette hook tool for this part. It grabs those tiny pieces of vinyl so easily.
Step 6: Use transfer tape to peel the remaining image from backing.
You are going to cut a piece of transfer tape just slightly bigger than your vinyl image.
Then peel the backing off the transfer tape and adhere it to the vinyl image.
The silhouette scraper tool is great help it stick to the vinyl.
Then peel the transfer tape off and the vinyl image should be stuck to it and it will look reversed.
Step 7: Position transfer tape with image on water bottle and press to adhere.
Again you can use the scraper tool to more firmly press it on to your surface.
Step 8: Peel off transfer tape and VOILA!
That’s it. Now you can track your water intake all day long and admire your awesome new water bottle.
